While you may think of a side ponytail as totally ’80s, the updated version is much lower, which gives it a chicness the retro version definitely didn’t have. It’s mature and sophisticated, but with a hint of whimsy.
“The key to this look is to eliminate all separation between the hair and the neck when pulling it into the pony,” says Roszak. “Much like the dominatrix, the point of this look is a sleek appearance. Pull hair into a tight, low pony and secure with an elastic. Once this is done, manipulate the pony to the side, then tame flyaways with a styling cream.”
