Prom Hair Ideas Inspired By New York Fashion Week

“For day, I saw a lot of hair that looks undone this season on the runways,” notes Thai Le, stylist at FRANK CASSI BEAUTY. “To achieve this great, flattering look, simply pull your hair back loosely and tie it into a couple of knots. Then stick a couple of bobby pins in to keep it (somewhat) in place!”

HALF UP, HALF DOWN

One of the hottest trends this year is a messy, half-up half-down hairstyle, says Jennifer McGann, Director of Cosmetology at Tricoci University of Beauty Culture. To achieve this, wrap small to medium sections of hair around the curling iron barrel sporadically throughout the head and loosely pin back the sides to your liking.  Feel free to pin more or less depending on how much you want to open up your face.

Quick tip:  if your dress is strapless or more revealing around the décolleté area and neckline, you can have more hair around your face. If your dress has detail in this area, shoot for pulling more hair pieces away from your face to display the dress!

BRAIDS & HAIR EXTENSIONS

Another hot trend this season we saw all over the runways is braided styles with hair extensions. Whether it’s a loose and messy side braid or a fishtail, feel free to have some fun with the look!  I find braids work well when some hair extensions is added to the hair first.  Wrap a few sections around a barrel first to create texture and movement, spray some hairspray to mess it up and place the braid as desired.
